Crain’s Detroit Business named HRPro to its 2026 Best Places to Work in Michigan list, ranking the Royal Oak firm No. 67 out of the 100 companies honored statewide.
Crain’s released the list on August 20, 2026 and the ranking comes from Best Companies Group, a Pennsylvania research firm that runs the program every year and has now put HRPro on it for the tenth time since 2016.

Best Companies Group builds its rankings from two sources. Companies fill out an employer questionnaire covering benefits, policies and practices, and employees answer a confidential 77-question survey rating their own experience at work. This year the firm collected employee responses in June, then combined both sets of data to rank the state’s 100 best employers.
“We strive to create a fun, collaborative culture that puts relationships and personalized service at the heart of everything we do,” said Kristopher Powell, president and CEO of HRPro. “Our mission has always been to help organizations take better care of their people, and we believe in practicing what we preach. This recognition is a reflection of the culture we work hard to create for our clients, and just as importantly, for our own team. We don’t just tell organizations that their people matter; we strive to demonstrate that every day within our own organization.”

That philosophy shows up in specific ways around the office. The team gets an early Friday send-off through the CEO’s spontaneous emailed limericks, announcing that the day is closing. Wednesdays bring “Magic Moment” shout-outs, where employees recognize each other’s day-to-day wins. Employee appreciation parties, family picnics and company outings fill out the calendar, and milestones at 5, 10 and 15-plus years each get their own celebration. On the benefits side, the team gets a 401(k) match of up to 6%, HSA contributions, tuition reimbursement, and an employee assistance program, and most staff work a hybrid schedule built around one shared day in the office each week.

One employee put it simply in company feedback: “HRPro truly cares about its employees and works hard to foster a fun, collaborative work environment. Employees are respected and treated as the company’s greatest asset.”
